About Door Alignments
Thresholds fit between the bottom of your door and the frame and act as a sealant to the gap that naturally occurs at that particular point in the opening. The primary purpose of a door threshold is to improve energy efficiency by keeping hot/cold air from entering/escaping from the bottom of your door, and to stop rain water from getting into the building. They are an important component of your doors physical security as well and can really improve the look and aesthetics of an entrance way.
REACHING THE "THRESHOLD" OF YOUR THRESHOLD
As time goes on, a door threshold takes a substantial amount of abuse. Foot traffic, weather and constant openings of the door all start to compromise the material that makes up the threshold. Eventually they deteriorate and/or rust out. Luckily, replacing a commercial door threshold is not a labor intensive or difficult job!
Typically, a threshold is “Lagged” down into the concrete with some special screws to prevent it from shifting and moving underneath the foot traffic. When these screws loosen up or the metal starts to break down, you will often times HEAR the threshold making noise, which should alert you to the fact it’s time for a new one.
